Larry Jordan: Tell me about Strawberry, what does it do?

Derek Barrilleaux: Like I said, Strawberry is designed to give the editorial side some lightweight search and collaboration tools to help them manage their editing projects but also provide really powerful IT tools and structures so the post-production environment can more easily manage their work in progress.

LJ: Avid's had a collaborative tool for a long time. Why would there be an interest in this?

DB: Yeah, and I sold that product for a long time. The issue is, obviously, Avid's focused on Avid and they have a great product for Media Composer, but then productions these days, they're not just bound to one application. You have Media Composer, you Premiere, you have After Effects, you have Final Cut, you have DaVinci and what we are finding is productions are reallyÔøΩ The approach of Strawberry being independent really is resonating with these productions that have all these various applications. Strawberry is designed to just give you some common tools across those applications.

LJ: Tools that do what?

DB: Help editors managing their editing projects.

LJ: I'm trying to pin you down. What does manage their editing project mean?

DB: It's a means how do you set up your project structure? How do you share assets and projects with each other as editors in a group of 5 or 10 editors? On the IT side, how do you make sure those editors aren't working chaotically on your storage and just storing stuff all over the place? How do you know what assets are ready to be purged or archived after the edit? Strawberry provides, on the one side, a storage management utility to organize the central storage by project and, on the other side, provides this lightweight search and asset management functionality that really helps the editors to search, view, find, share their content.
