Jon Finegold of Signiant | Interview snippets from NAB BuZZ 2018 podcasts with Larry Jordan
Larry Jordan: What makes it different? Because my bandwidth doesn’t change, the speed of my connection doesn’t change. How can you speed up the file transfer?
Jon Finegold: It’s often not about bandwidth. I think that’s a common misconception that, when things don’t move quickly, they assume that they just have a bad internet connection and often that’s not the case. When you think about something that moves around the Internet, it’s hopping from place to place and if we can eliminate a lot of those hops or eliminate a lot of the back and forth, things can move a lot faster even over the standard connection that you have today.
LJ: Why can’t I do it myself?
JF: There’s some inherent challenges with the way the Internet was architected, especially when you’re talking about moving big files. The technology that’s sort of in a standard internet situation was not developed for modern media files, which are gigabytes and gigabytes, and so as the media industry has evolved and files continue to get bigger, these challenges just get more magnified.
